The Boulevard Quilters have been meeting every week for over 30 years to hand quilt tops that others have pieced. A fee is charged based on the size of the quilt and amount of quilting. The money that is received is used to support mission projects.

When they don’t have tops from others to quilt, they work on quilts for Buckhorn. It is a residential facility located in Kentucky for children who have been abused and neglected or involved with the juvenile system. Children are placed there by the court. Buckhorn is affiliated with the Presbyterian church. The quilts were requested by Buckhorn to show children that they are important and loved. When a child leaves the facility, the quilt goes with them. So far the quilters have completed and mailed more than ten quilts over the years.

Participants build deep and lasting friendships while they share the satisfaction of creating beautiful quilts. New to quilting? No problem!

Join us every Wednesday in the loung from 9:30 a.m. to noon.

Quilts for Buckhorn

The Presbyterian Women of Boulevard continue to fund materials to make quilts for children who are placed in residential care in Buckhorn, KY.

A  newsletter from Buckhorn Children and Family Services described the children who are placed there as follows: “The youth served are among the most at-risk in the state. For example, 90 percent of children have a parent with history of drug abuse, with 60 percent having used themselves; while 75 percent of children have a history of attempted suicide, and 80 percent of children have a history of sexual abuse.”

The choir is open to anyone high school age and older who attend our church. Please contact the office for schedule and time.

Fellowship Committee

The Fellowship Committee is committed to serving our congregation in a variety of ways in order to strengthen Christian love and support for each other.

Financial Committee

This committee meets monthly to review the financial reports.  The committee works closely with the church Treasurer (who also sits on the committee) and the church secretary (who generates the monthly financial reports).

Property Committee

We coordinate with other committees and church staff to address immediate and long term needs of our building and grounds. We’ve recently worked on the following projects:

If you’re interested in getting your hands dirty, sharing knowledge about building maintenance and improvements, or are interested in learning hands on do it yourself work, please consider checking us out.

Worship Committee

The committee sees to it that worship is meaningful for the congregation and that the details of worship are arranged: communion bread and wine, readers, acolytes, candles for worship, etc.

Since Boulevard’s Prayer Shawl Ministry began in 2007, over 400 hand knit or crocheted prayer shawls or lap robes have been created and handed out to members and friends as an expression of God’s love during difficult times. Baby blankets are provided to newborns.

Our purpose is for people to feel God’s love at a difficult time in their life. We knit and crochet shawls, lap robes, baby blankets, neck scarves, and dish cloths. Beginners are welcome! We can even supply yarn, hooks and needles, and patterns.

If you are unable to come to the gatherings, please feel free to knit or crochet at home. Our ministry can always use donations.

If you would like to receive a shawl or get a shawl for a loved one, please contact the church office at 614-486-0267. You do not have to be a member of Boulevard to receive a shawl.

Youth

Here at Boulevard Presbyterian Church we understand that our youth are balancing a lot more these days. Sports, music, school, friendships, and spending time with family all compete for the hours of the day. Church and living out your faith shouldn’t be “one more thing” to add to the list but sometimes it feels that way.

Boulevard offers opportunities for Youth to get connected around meaningful service, mission, and opportunities to reach out into the world and put faith into practice. If it is serving dinner to some of Columbus’ homeless families, caring for our community, helping raise money to fight hunger, or caring for all God’s creatures, we strive to show that living out your faith is so much more than “just going to church.”

The latest communication February 2020

Hello Youth, Friends and Parents:

A few updates:

Laramie Project to be presented by the Hilliard Arts Council – dates are April 17 – 19 and 24 – 26. The theater is in Old Hilliard, (near the MacKoy center). This production would be for older youth and adults. Let us know if you have an interest and dates your are available. We will select a date where the most individuals can attend.

Always looking for theater suggestions.

The opportunity to participate in the June 6-12 Youth Mission Immersion Project, Maxwell Street Presbyterian Church, Lexington, Kentucky is immeasurable. Firsthand experience is irreplaceable in making a difference and I believe will stay with your children as they grow. This is a great opportunity as many Youth missions require a minimum age of 14. This mission involves grades 6-12 for the 2020-2021 school year.

March 1, 15, 22, 29 and April 5
Equipping has a 5-week Lent series. Similar to the Advent lessons, this will include three age groups. We are in need of volunteers for the older youth (grades 6-12) classes. It is only a one week commitment and there is a book that is easy to follow. Our youth are deserving of many volunteers to teach as we all have different teaching styles. Please come out of your comfort zone or share your talent. By that time, the weather may be appropriate for holding the class on the turquoise table or a nearby park (Pierce Field). A reminder that we need both a male and female adult in the class to be in compliance with Child Protection.

Reminders:

January 30 – Open Shelter Lunch Packing
February 7 – “Aladdin” movie in the lounge at 6:30 pm
February 9 and 16 – two Sundays in February – appropriate for youth and adults “Greenhouse Gases and Emissions Stewardship” by Alaina Engdahl – you are missing out if you have not attended one of Alaina’s classes. She is an exceptional teacher and knowledgeable.
March 8 – A Conversation about Gun Control led by Glen Schmidt – this is appropriate for older youth and parents
April 26 – May 2 (Rummage sale is May 1 and 2) – will require numerous volunteers all week (moving items from the 3rd floor, pricing, setting up displays, working, tear-down, etc.)

Please also let us know what events you can provide assistance or wish to participate.  It helps with planning.  We know that everyone is busy.  A quick email or phone call is appreciated.

Thank you.
